iqube goes East!
Precimation has taken its first steps into the Eastern European market. In conjunction with its partner, Ascom Poland – the subsidiary of Swiss Ascom AG, Precimation has won a 2.1 million Euro bid for the development and delivery of a dynamic passenger information system in Warsaw. The project has been contracted by the transit operator Tramwaje Warszawskie, who with approximately 850 trams, operates one of the largest tram networks in Europe.
The European Union funded project is part of the stop and station infrastructure renovation between the Banacha tram depot and the station Rondo Waszingtona. Twenty-six iqube Type L displays will be installed on Aleje Jerozolimskie, the most important East-West-connection in downtown Warsaw.
Along with these developments, the vehicles’ infrastructure will be supplemented with compact tracking and transmission devices. Approximately 220 trams will receive a newly developed iqube vehicle module that automatically tracks its location via satellite (GPS) and transmits its position directly to the stop based on cell phone data communication (GPRS).
As in many other cases, the iqube.center in Warsaw will download scheduling data to all stops and control all operational processes. In addition, the iqube.center will have something new to offer: Menus, user interfaces, and system messages will run in Polish. This is great news for the iqube users in Poland and an exciting challenge for the developers and support team in Switzerland.
